Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is set to resume trade
negotiations with US President Donald Trump, following Canada's announcement
Sunday night that it was repealing the Digital Services Tax on US technology
companies.
The Canadian government said it was repealing the Digital
Services Tax "in anticipation of a mutually beneficial comprehensive trade
agreement with the United States."
"In line with this action, Prime Minister Carney and
President Trump have agreed that the parties will resume negotiations with a
view to reaching an agreement by July 21, 2025," Canada's Department of
Finance said in a press release, according to Fox Business.
The government also announced that the planned collection of
the tax on June 30, 2025, will be suspended and that legislation to repeal the
Digital Services Tax Act is in the works.
