Divided opinions on withdrawing federal funding from abortion provider Planned Parenthood

Moderate Republicans are expected to be the biggest obstacle for abortion advocates seeking to withdraw federal funding for Planned Parenthood in an upcoming reconciliation package, and some have already begun to voice their opposition.

The topic of defunding Planned Parenthood was briefly raised during a closed-door meeting Tuesday night between House Speaker Mike Johnson, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, and several moderate Republicans as they discussed potential Medicaid cuts, according to two sources familiar with the discussion, NOTUS reported.

A source indicated that Representatives Mike Lawler, Brian Fitzpatrick, and Jen Kiggans were among the moderate Republicans who made clear to House GOP leaders their opposition to including a provision to cut federal funding for Planned Parenthood in a reconciliation bill.  / CBrief
