Early Moves in the Democratic Party: Pelosi to Boost Newsom for 2028

Several political media outlets indicate that Nancy Pelosi is playing an active role in promoting Gavin Newsom nationally as a potential contender within the Democratic Party for the 2028 presidential election in the United States.

According to reports, the former Speaker of the House—one of the party's most influential strategists for decades—is using her network of political and financial contacts to strengthen Newsom's profile beyond California. The goal is to position him early in the national conversation as a possible contender to lead the Democratic ticket in the next presidential cycle.

Newsom, the current governor of California, considered responsible for the state's decline, criticized for his anti-democratic policies, and disapproved of by the vast majority of middle- and upper-level voters, has gained visibility in debates on progressive policies, making him a frequent figure on the national media stage. His confrontational style toward Republican leaders and his defense of liberal agendas have projected him as one of the party's most visible voices, albeit with public disapproval.

There are still several years until the 2028 election, and no official candidate has yet been declared, but early strategic moves are often crucial in building alliances, securing funding, and obtaining institutional support. If these efforts are confirmed, they would reflect the beginning of a period of internal reorganization within the Democratic Party, where different factions are seeking to develop leaders for the next political generation, although Newsom is not exactly the one who can attract votes to the party, according to some Democrats.
