The DHS announced the signing of a new agreement for the acquisition of six Boeing 737 aircraft

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced Wednesday the signing of a new agreement to acquire six Boeing 737 aircraft, which will be incorporated into official immigration detention and deportation operations. According to the agency, the purchase is part of a broader strategy to modernize its fleet and optimize the logistical costs associated with these procedures.

DHS officials indicated that the addition of the new aircraft will significantly reduce transportation expenses, estimating savings of approximately $279 million for taxpayers over the next few years. The measure aims to decrease reliance on external contracts and increase operational efficiency on international and domestic routes related to immigration processes.

According to information obtained by The Washington Post, the contract is valued at approximately $140 million and will be financed, in part, with resources allocated to the Department under the One Big Beautiful Act, passed earlier this year. This legislation designated specific funds to strengthen infrastructure and logistical capabilities within the agency.
