US Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley
(R-Iowa) released an internal Justice Department document revealing that senior
US government figures, including former Attorney General Merrick Garland,
former Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco, and FBI Director Christopher Wray,
personally authorized the launch of the so-called “Operation Arctic Frost.”
The report, which until now remained classified, details
that the operation was approved at the highest levels of the federal judicial
and intelligence apparatus, indicating that it was not an isolated initiative
by subordinate agents or prosecutors, but rather a strategic effort driven from
the top of the Justice Department.
Although the specific details of "Arctic Frost"
have not been fully disclosed, sources close to the Judiciary Committee
indicate that it is a large-scale operation linked to national security
investigations and covert activities abroad, possibly related to espionage,
money laundering, or cyber threats.
Grassley, known for his oversight role over federal agencies,
stated that the release of the document seeks to shed light on the transparency
and scope of the government's secret operations. "The American people have
a right to know the extent of the Department of Justice's actions and who makes
those decisions," the senator stated at a press conference.
The Department of Justice and the FBI, for their part, have
not issued official comments on the leak, although they are expected to face
political and media pressure in the coming days to explain the objective,
legality, and results of the operation.
