Attorney General Pam Bondi announced her intention to open
investigations against several high-profile Democrats who she alleges may be
interfering with the work of federal immigration enforcement agents.
During an interview with Jesse Watters on Fox News' Jesse
Watters Primetime, Bondi accused Democratic figures of attempting to obstruct
immigration enforcement orders issued during the Trump administration, which,
according to the attorney general, poses a risk to the effectiveness of federal
operations and national security.
Bondi's comment came in reaction to a video released by
former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot announcing the creation of a nonprofit
organization called the ICE Accountability Project. According to Lightfoot, the
initiative seeks to document alleged criminal actions by ICE and Customs and
Border Protection (CBP) agents, as well as to "expose" officers
involved in questionable practices.
Bondi called the organization a threat to the work of
federal agents and stated that her office will evaluate whether there are any
violations of the law by those who promote or participate in these actions,
asserting that her mandate includes protecting the integrity of federal law
enforcement agencies.
