Footage circulates showing people jumping into the ocean to
flee Maui wildfires as patients overwhelm hospitals and 911 goes out, CNN has
reported.
The out-of-control
wildfires in Maui, Hawaii County have been so catastrophic that some residents
have jumped into the ocean to escape the flames.
Even first responders might not be able to help as the
inferno, fueled in part by Hurricane Dora churning some 800 miles away, has
knocked out 911 services and communications on Maui.
“911 is down. Cell
service is down. Phone service is down," Hawaii Lieutenant Governor Sylvia
Luke told CNN Wednesday morning.
